Before his call to the bar, Patrick was employed by the Queensland Police Service from December 1989 to February 2010 and was regarded as one of Australia’s leading Counter-Terrorism Negotiators with the Australian Government’s Attorney-General’s Department and was highly regarded as a Police Hostage Negotiator, Mediator and specialist facilitator for the State of Queensland. Since March 2010, Patrick now uses these same skills to resolve complex legal disputes in his diverse practice as a Barrister.
Patrick has since appeared as counsel in a broad range of commercial proceedings, both at trial and appellate level in State and Federal Courts and Tribunals. He practises in a broad range of areas, including: general commercial litigation; negligence and subrogated insurance matters; personal injuries; and regularly acts for the State of Queensland regarding intentional torts and various negligence claims.
Patrick is a regular presenter and facilitator with Leo Cussen Centre for Law for their Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice (Practical Legal Training) program and is an author and editor for LexisNexis ‘Civil Procedure Queensland’. He has presented papers and presentations on a range of topics – including negotiation and alternative dispute resolution (to AILA), and strategic communication and advocacy skills to government and the private sector.
